is going stronout on the streets. bob barnard is out there with the fans taking part in all the fun, i'm sure. bob, take it away. >> reporter: hey, scott, this is a memorable night for washington sport fans, for nats fans, for baseball fans. the few here inside they've locked this gate. the main center field gait is still open. they're gobbling up -- gate is still open. they're gobbling up new merchandise. we can show you video from masn earlier. this was at 9:44 tonight when word came. it was going into the bottom of the 9th here in washington. nats were down 2-0 and the word came from pittsburgh that the braves had lost and so the place went crazy and that's how the fans here found out that the nats were the nl east champions. this game hadn't ended, but thanks to the pittsburgh pirates beating the atlanta braves tonight they're nl east champs and very happy. here's some of the taste of the fans' reaction here on the sidewalk. >> i can't even express right now what i'm feeling. this is amazing. it was kind of anti-climatic a little bit, but we're going into postseason. >> reporter:

stores again and again. fox 5's bob barnard with the details from our newsroom. >> these crimes are happening during your morning commute when kids are on their way to school. the armed gunmen have robbed three stores, one in a busy strip mall. this is surveillance video of the two suspects committing their most recent crime, a robbery last tuesday morning. their target? the east pines liquor store here on riverdale road in riverdale, maryland. in the video you can see the men pretty clearly wearing dark clothing and ball caps as they confront the two store employees working that morning. one of the robbers would pull out a gun and demand to be let inside the office. we visited the store this evening. one of the victims told us off camera he told the robbers he didn't have a key. so they bound his and his co- workers wrist with plastic zip ties and made them get on the floor. prince george's county police say they believe the same two men robbed at least two other liquor stores last month, one in suitland and this place on september 4th. it's david's liquors in the lan dove hill

alternative fuel vehicles. governor bob mcdonnell announceed a partnership with two energy company to eventually make the fleet of state vehicles all alternative view. they are working with vehicle companies to lower the cost of alternative fuel vehicles. >>> also new, maryland governor martineau malyea has plans to help prevent massive power outages in the state. according to the "washington post," he will release a report today that proposes a new surcharge. customers would pay an extra dollar or two a month so pepco and other companies have funding available to strengthen the grid. the hope is that crews could complete self years of tree trimming in the next two years. >>> a boil water alert is now in effect after a water main broke tuesday morning. the virginia department of health is advising all residents to boil their water for drinking and other uses until health officials determine the water is safe to drink. tests were conducted and the results should be available by tomorrow. >>> the university of the district of columbia is struggling financially and facing an ann certa
